Progress on the second bedroom
It's been almost a month since our last post, but we've been keeping busy despite the lack of updates. We've made good progress on the 2nd bedroom.
We started by covering the bare walls with BnQs finest £1.20 per Litre white emulsion.
We started by covering the bare walls with BnQs finest £1.20 per Litre white emulsion.
It took a good 3 coats of the cheap emulsion to start covering the pink paint. And on top of that, a few coats of thicker white paint. Prior to painting over the pink we spend a lot of time trying to remove the pink paint from the wall. It wasn't moving. So we came to the conclusion that it would have to be painted over ... until ...
A load of paint peeled off the wall under the pressure of the roller. Here is what I think happened, as the various coats of paint dried, the chemicals in the paint loosened the pink paint that previously couldn't be removed. It was the 5th or 6th coat of white when this happened, and it all peeled off effortlessly. Initially, it was only a small section that peeled off with the roller, but the rest followed easily.
The above picture shows the affected area with a small parameter of oil based paint to "seal" the existing white coats and the plasterboard. Hear are some action shots from the proceeding coats over the affected area.
Fixed!
Because the wall above arches and turns into the ceiling, we were not sure what to do in terms of colour. We thought if we did all walls and ceiling the same colour, the room would be too dark, especially as the room is quite small. Instead, as you can see, we chose to do the ceiling and arched wall white. And we went for a shade of grey for the outside walls.
So now we have the office and the 2nd bedroom ready for carpets. Once they are in both rooms are pretty much finished.
